Elizabeth Kron was born in Chicago on April 27, 1929. On Aug. 21, 1948, Elizabeth became a novice and was given the name Sister Helen. She made her first vows on Aug. 21, 1950, and was sent to teach and serve as sacristan at St. John School in Detroit.
Sister Helen’s next assignment was to teach at Resurrection School in St. Louis (1958-60). Two years later she was back in Illinois, teaching at St. Edward School in Chillicothe. In 1965, Sister Helen was sent to teach at Notre Dame School in Clarendon Hills, Illinois. Another assignment to Resurrection School in St. Louis (1970-73) and then to New Ulm, Minnesota, followed.
Sister Helen returned to Wilmette in 1977. At Mallinckrodt College she served as registrar for the college. In 1978, she became administrative secretary. Sister Helen was the office clerk at Josephinum High School in 1980.
In 1981, Sister Helen moved to Sacred Heart Convent in Wilmette. For the first three years she was the portress. In 1984, Sister Helen was assigned the task of supervising the housekeeping staff. She carried out this task and others, including distributing mail and serving breakfast to the chaplains, until 2017. Sister Helen embarked upon her final ministry of prayer and presence in 2020.
Burial was in Maria Immaculata Cemetery.
